Mumbai – Jain Muni Nayan Padmasagar Maharaj made a startling claim at a programme here that Maharani Tarabai, who shattered the cruel Aurangzeb’s dream of conquering the Deccan and fought him valiantly till the end, was a Jain.

Vikramsinh Mohite, a descendant of Tararani’s father Hambirrao Mohite, stated in an interview to the media that this claim has no historical basis. He added that despite the profound teachings of Jain Dharma, it is unfortunate that religious leaders make such statements and distort history.

Jain Muni Nileshchandra Maharaj has opposed the statement made by Muni Nayan Padmasagar Maharaj. Historians and experts have also termed the claim incorrect. Reactions are being expressed on social media demanding that he issue an apology.

Nayan Padmasagar Maharaj also stated on this occasion that the Marathi language was structured by Jains and therefore a Jain university should be established in Mumbai. Jain Muni Nileshchandra Maharaj alleged that this is an attempt to create a dispute between Marathis and Jains.
