Life Imprisonment for Asiya Andrabi, a Woman Separatist Leader in Kashmir

Was in contact with Pak-sponsored terrorist Hafiz Saeed and Syed Salahuddin

New Delhi – While passing a verdict in an important case of terrorism, the Court sentenced Asiya Andrabi, a Kashmiri separatist and founding leader of ‘Dukhtaran-e-Millat’, to life imprisonment under ‘the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA)’. Her associates Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen in the same case have been sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment. The Government pleader argued that Andrabi’s activities amounted to her waging a war against India which was accepted by the Court. Asiya Andrabi’s imprisonment is a big success of security systems fighting for a long time against propaganda of jihadi terrorism, funding of jihadi activities and separatist factions supporting anti-India activities carried out from across the border.

1. After the detailed arguments about the period of punishment, Judge Chander Jit Singh of the additional Sessions Court passed this verdict. These three women were declared guilty under many stringent clauses of UAPA including clause 20 (member of a terrorist organisation), clause 38 (connection with a terrorist organisation) and clause 39 (Supporting a terrorist organisation).

2. She has been found guilty under the Indian Penal Code clauses viz. clause 153 -A (increase enmity between factions), 153-B (activities against national sovereignty), 120-B (making statements to create public nuisance) and 121-A (Conspiracy to wage a war against the State).

Demand of National Investigation Agency

1. Asiya Andrabi should be given maximum and stringent punishment

2. She should be given the severest punishment to put a curb on anti-national conspiracies and for maintaining sovereignty of this country.

With whom Asiya Andrabi was in contact ?

1. Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen’s terrorist Syed Salahuddin

2. Many terrorists from other countries and across the border

3. Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his external affairs advisor Sartaj Aziz

4. Officers from Pakistan’s High Commission in Delhi

Editorial Perspective

It shows that not only fanatic Muslim men but even such women are involved in anti-national activities.
