Orders to send back illegal immigrants if found

Mumbai – The Mumbai High Court has directed the Mumbai Municipal Corporation to carry out a comprehensive verification of all hawkers in the city. The Court clarified that this verification must also include those suspected to be foreign nationals or illegal immigrants.
A bench of Justices Ajay Gadkari and Kamal Khata ordered the Municipal Corporation and Mumbai Police to identify such individuals and take action against them as per the law. This directive was issued during the hearing of various petitions related to unauthorised hawkers in the city.
The Mumbai High Court stated1. A detailed verification and scrutiny of temporary and permanent stalls in the city must be conducted. 2. The identity of all hawkers must be verified, irrespective of whether they cause obstruction to pedestrians or traffic. 3. The identities of all hawkers, stall holders, as well as their assistants and employees, must also be verified. 4. If any illegal immigrant is found, action must be taken as per law and the process to send them back should be initiated through the concerned authorities. 5. If necessary action is not taken, the concerned authorities will be held accountable. |
