Kathmandu (Nepal) – In Kapilvastu, on Eid, a Muslim mob allegedly attacked the temple premises, claiming that bhajans being played on a loudspeaker were disturbing them. According to reports, a group forced its way into the temple, vandalised property, damaged the loudspeaker, and assaulted the priest.

The incident occurred on 21 March at the Kali Mandir in Bargadi Ghat, Maharajganj. Bhajans were being played as part of the Chaitra Navratri observances, while members of the Muslim community were offering namaz at the same time.

As news of the incident spread, large numbers of people gathered to protest, leading to tension and unrest in the area.

Curfew imposed in affected areas

Protests intensified in the Butanhaniya area, with demonstrators demanding action against those Muslims who were involved. In some places, roads were blocked, and tyres burned, further escalating tensions.

Senior administrative and police officials reached the spot and attempted to disperse the crowd. When the situation remained tense, police used lathi- charge and tear gas. As the unrest continued, police resorted to firing to control the situation.

Reports indicate that at least eight individuals, including police personnel and civilians, were injured.

To maintain order, curfew has been imposed in Bargadi, Maharajganj Bazaar, Hardauna, and Bahadurganj areas.

  • At the time of namaz, Muslims get troubled by temple loudspeakers; however, for the last several decades, mosque loudspeakers have been causing nuisance for Hindus all over the country. Is it justified?
  • The next Prime Minister in Nepal might be Balendra Shah. Will he do something to protect Hindus?
