MLA Bhaskar Jadhav of Thackeray Faction Misuses Prabhu Shriram’s Name

BJP MLA Devyani Pharande insists to raise slogans of ‘Jai Shriram’

Mumbai, 18 March – On 18.03.2026, during the question-answer session in the Assembly, discussions were held on the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and there were strong arguments on the issue of ‘Hindutva’ between the ruling and opposition parties. On a question regarding workers, Thackeray faction’s MLA Bhaskar Jadhav sarcastically asked whether the Government has decided to do ‘Jai Shriram’ of the people. (Jadhav wanted to state that the Government’s policies were killing workers and to express that he compared it to the chanting of Shriram done in a funeral ) BJP’s devout Hindu MLA, Devyani Pharande immediately insisted Jadhav to say ‘Jai Shriram’.

An attempt to show disrespect to Prabhu Shriram’s name

MLA Pharande noticed that MLA Jadhav was referring to Prabhu Shriram’s name in a negative manner while criticising the Government on the issue of workers’ salaries. She immediately got up from her seat and came to the first row to stop Jadhav. She insisted that Jadhav should say ‘Jai Shriram’. She strongly condemned the attitude of opposition to take Prabhu Shriram’s name and make mockery.

MLA Pharande’s strong stance for ‘Hindutva’ put Bhaskar Jadhav in a fix. He commented on the knowledge of MLA Pharande and tried to change the topic. The speaker of the House asked Pharande to go back to her seat; but she continued her demand and protect the honour of ‘Hindutva’. The opposition parties’ members then left the session amidst slogans on the question of workers’ issues. They seemed to be happy to oppose Prabhu Shriram’s name than the welfare of the workers.
