Islamabad (Pakistan) – Pakistan and Afghanistan have decided to implement a temporary ceasefire on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramzan Eid). The decision follows several weeks of ongoing clashes and aerial attacks between the 2 countries. The ceasefire came into effect from midnight on March 19th and will remain in force until the end of Eid celebrations.
Pakistan stated that the decision was taken as a gesture of goodwill; however, it also warned that military operations would resume if any cross-border attacks occur.
Reports indicate that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye played a mediating role in efforts to reduce tensions. Following appeals from these countries, both sides agreed to the ceasefire.
Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of violating the ceasefire !Afghanistan has alleged that Pakistan violated the ceasefire despite the temporary truce announced for Eid. According to Afghan authorities, Pakistan fired 72 artillery shells into Kunar province. Zia-ur-Rahman Spin Ghar, head of Kunar’s Information Department, stated that 35 shells landed in the areas of Dokalam, Barikot, and Songalai in Narai district, while 37 shells struck various locations in Manogai district. Reports indicate that firing was still ongoing in parts of Narai district. No casualties have been reported so far. The Afghan side has further alleged that Pakistani forces targeted civilians who were returning to their homes. Editorial perspectivePakistan is synonymous with betrayal ! Even when both nations are Islamic countries and a ceasefire was declared on the occasion of Eid, if Pakistan can still carry out such attacks, can it ever be trusted in its dealings with India ? |
