Bengaluru (Karnataka) – A comedy show by Nasif Akhtar was scheduled to take place on 8th March at Ministry of Comedy in the Koramangala area. In some of his earlier performances, Akhtar had made derogatory jokes about India, the Hindu Dharma, Shriram, and the Hindu Rashtra. When local devout Hindus became aware of this, they objected to the programme.

Mohan Gowda, spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Karnataka, submitted a formal request by email to the Police Commissioner. In his request, he demanded that the event be cancelled under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Members of the Hindu Rashtra Samanvay Samiti also visited the Koramangala Police Station and filed a complaint regarding the issue. After Police pressure, Nasif Akhtar released a video announcing that the comedy show had been cancelled.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Devout Hindus in Bengaluru deserve congratulations for their vigilance. However, it is also necessary for Hindus to create a strong deterrent so that such individuals hostile to Hindus are not allowed to hold programmes anywhere in India.
  • If any Hindu had made similar jokes about Muslims or Islam, he might have already been beheaded or at least faced calls for his killing through religious decrees. The fact that Hindus remain silent when their revered beliefs are disrespected is nothing but shameful.
