Historical Sangram Fort at Chakan (Pune) Surrounded by Encroachments !

Local Hindus demand preservation and conservation of the fort
Accusation against Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) of not removing encroachments while carrying out repairs

Chakan (Pune) – Sangram Durg at Chakan (Tal Khed) has a historical significance. Presently, the repairing work of this fort is under way and it was observed that many trenches were dug in the area. The unauthorised works have created problems for this fort. Lot of trees have grown on the fortifications and bastion of the fort. ASI should measure the fort area and protect the fort by removing encroachments, is the demand of local citizens and people who are proud of their history. ASI is also being accused of not removing the encroachments.

1. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Jijau had stayed on this fort.

2. In the last few years, there have been incidents of throwing garbage in the fort area, blocking of trenches, breaking of stones and theft of the stones and white soil.

3. ASI has closed down the road going through the centre of the fort. It, however, requires to take concrete steps for removing encroachments inside and around the fort area.

4. Advocate Kiran Zinjurke, the Chairman of ‘Killedar Firangoji Narasala Smarak Pratishthan’ informed that the fort where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had once stayed should be preserved and protected. Presently, developmental work worth Rs 30 crores have been undertaken.

Hindus need to be always alert, for ASI to take prompt action of removing encroachments in the fort area. Though such demands should be made when the repair work is undertaken, it is more essential for devout Hindus to be always vigilant.

Could lack of love and respect for Dharma and lack of unity amongst Hindus be the reason for ASI not taking action against encroachments ? Hindus need to note that if a longer line of Hindu unity is drawn against the line of encroachments line, ASI will take note of Hindus and comply with their demands.
