BJP challenges Kerala Chief Minister’s opposition to the film ‘The Kerala Story 2’

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has opposed the film ‘The Kerala Story – 2’, calling it ‘hateful’. The BJP State President Rajiv Chandrasekhar responded to this by saying, ‘If there is really something illegal in the film, then Vijayan should go to Court instead of making statements on it.’ He also warned that he should not use his position as Chief Minister to create fear among people.

Points raised by Chandrasekhar
1.When a film came out which was against the BJP, Vijayan welcomed it stating ‘freedom of expression’. We did not protest or say anything against the film. How is it that when someone else makes a movie against his own political thinking, it suddenly becomes a problem ? This is hypocrisy. The filmmakers have every right to make a film and the viewers have every right to watch it.
2.No one has appointed you the protector. You do not need to act as if you are the protector of any community. The Constitution has given equal fundamental rights to every Indian and Malayali citizen. Stop fooling the people and do not spread hatred against the film unnecessarily. The film will definitely be released as the filmmakers have full right to make the film and the viewer has full right to watch it, Chandrashekhar clarified.
Dispute goes to the High Court

The Kerala High Court has taken note of the petition filed against the release of the film ‘The Kerala Story – 2’ and has issued notices to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board) and the producers of the film. Sridev Nambuthiri, a biologist, has filed the petition. He has claimed that the image of Kerala has been presented in a wrong and negative way in the trailer of the film. The main objection of the petitioner is to the title of the film. Although the trailer contains stories from other States, the title of the film ‘The Kerala Story – 2’ is creating an impression that all these incidents are happening only in Kerala. Therefore, Sridev has demanded an immediate ban on this film.
What does ‘The Kerala Story – 2’ depict ?
In this film, Muslim girls are shown to be trapping Hindu girls in romantic relationships, marrying them and abusing them. The trailer of this film shows the story of 3 Hindu girls from the States of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
