Reaction from a Republican Party lawmaker in the US over the alleged Islamisation of New York

Washington DC (USA) – Randy Fine, a lawmaker from the ruling Republican Party in the United States, wrote on X, “If they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one.” Fine made this remark in response to comments made on social media by New York-based Palestinian-American activist Nerdeen Kiswani. Kiswani had stated that dogs are unclean. As New York is allegedly moving in the direction of Islam, she said no one should keep dogs at home and that they should be banned. (Through this, Kiswani is clearly signaling efforts to Islamise New York. Why should there not be opposition to this? – Editor)

1. Congressman Fine said that there are 57 countries in the world where Sharia law is implemented. “If that is what you want, then go there. America will not become the 58th Muslim country.”
2. In response, Kiswani clarified that she was only joking. She said her statement was related to an ongoing debate about dog waste in public places in New York. It was directed at those who consider the growing influence of Muslims in politics to be dangerous.
3. Kiswani accused Fine of dehumanising Palestinians and Muslims. She also claimed that no strict action is taken against anti-Muslim speeches made by elected representatives.
4. Fine’s statement has drawn sharp criticism in Washington. Democrats, civil rights groups, and many leaders have described the remark as promoting “Islamophobia” (hatred of Islam).
Kiswani attempting to impose Sharia Law; Fine’s strong retortFine responded to the criticism directed at him, saying the real issue was Kiswani’s written statement. He said his remarks were in response to her comments, which appeared to suggest an attempt to impose Sharia law. Fine stated, “In America, dogs are members of the family. We will not bow in shame and surrender like Europe.” Through this, Fine implied that Europeans have capitulated in the face of lakhs of Muslim refugees and, under pressure, have lost their culture, traditions, and freedom. |
Editorial PerspectiveSuch statements can certainly hurt the sentiments of a section of society. However, if such remarks are being made by an elected representative, can it be dismissed merely as politics, or is it necessary in a modern civilised society to objectively examine the reasons behind it ? |
