Mangaluru (Karnataka) – While Mahashivaratri is being observed all over the country with great enthusiasm, in Sri Ramalingeswara Temple at Shingataluru in Mundargi taluk of Gadag district in Karnataka, Shivalinga and the idol of Nandi was vandalised. On the previous day, the local people cleaned and white-washed the temple in preparation for Mahashivaratri and decorated it with traditional buntings and flowers. The devotees were shocked to see as they reached the temple early in the morning for ‘puja’ that the idols were damaged.

The local people are enraged and have demanded immediate arrest of the guilty and stringent action against them. The unknown miscreants entered the temple in the darkness at night and damaged the Shivalinga and Nandi idol. The idol of Goddess  Honnattemma in the backside of the temple was also damaged.

Editorial Perspective

The incident happened only to hurt Hindus’ religious sentiments on the day of Mahashivaratri. It is a matter of shame for Hindus that in a country of Hindus, someone dared to do such an act.
