Fraud carried out by luring the victim with promises of high returns !

Laxmanpuri (Uttar Pradesh) – Dinesh Sharma, a retired Deputy General Manager of Punjab National Bank, has been cheated of ₹1.10 crore by cyber fraudsters. Sharma was first added to a WhatsApp group, where he was shown screenshots and messages claiming exceptionally high investment returns. Trusting these claims, he transferred a total of ₹1.10 crore from his bank account to the fraudsters, only to realize later that he had been completely duped.

1. Dinesh Sharma, a retired banking professional from Aligarh, was initially cautious. However, cybercriminals gradually trapped him by repeatedly assuring him of lucrative returns.

2. The fraudsters first sent messages promising returns of 30–40%. Later, Sharma was added to a WhatsApp group where several members claimed they had already earned substantial profits.

3. The scammers advised him to begin with a small investment. Sharma initially transferred ₹5,000. He was then shown inflated returns on this amount to build confidence.

4. Encouraged by the apparent profits, Sharma became increasingly interested. The fraudsters gained his trust and persuaded him to make a much larger investment. Eventually, he transferred ₹1.10 crore. After this, they demanded an additional ₹3 crore. At this stage, Sharma grew suspicious and informed his family.

5. It was only then that he realized he had been a victim of cyber fraud. He subsequently filed a complaint with the police.
