Guwahati (Assam) — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the State’s drive to remove illegal encroachments. He stated that in the last 2 days, 660 hectares of forest land in Assam’s Sribhumi district have been cleared of encroachments, while the recovery of another 220 hectares is still pending. On 8 February, officials initiated major action against illegal settlements in the reserved forests of the Patharkandi Assembly constituency as part of efforts to reclaim more than 12,000 hectares of encroached property. More than 2,000 families were ordered to vacate the area.

1.Illegal occupants from several villages, including Ishwarpur, Madhavpur, Ballia, Madhurbond, Chagalmoya, Magura and Jogisora, were directed to vacate forest land within a specified time limit.

2.The government aims to demolish illegal houses, temporary structures and remove overgrown vegetation to restore the area to its original forest condition.

3.According to officials, this initiative is part of an ongoing programme to rehabilitate forest areas and prevent future encroachments.

When will other BJP-ruled governments adopt the same firm and no-nonsense stand against encroachments as taken by the BJP government in Assam, this is the question being asked by patriotic citizens !
