BSP Chief Mayawati demands ban on film ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ for insulting Brahmin community

  • Many Hindus also demand to ban the film

  • Brahmin film producer and actor issue clarification

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – Bahujan Samaj Party Chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has expressed concern over the insult of the Brahmin community. Mayawati has demanded a ban on the film ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ (meaning ‘A corrupt Brahmin’) on ‘Netflix’. She said that not only in Uttar Pradesh, but now also in films, Brahmins are being insulted across the country by depicting them as corrupt. This has enraged the Brahmin community. The Union Government should immediately ban such a caste-based film. The producer of this film is Neeraj Pandey, and the main role is played by Manoj Bajpayee. Interestingly, both of them are Brahmins. (If Brahmin producer and actor themselves are insulting Brahmin community in this manner, it highlights Brahmin community too needs to be educated on Dharma – Editor).

Nishikant Dubey, BJP MP and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Information Technology, said that he could respond about this only after the topic is discussed.

Opposition from the Congress party as well

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai has called the film anti-Brahmin and criticized the BJP. Rai alleged that the BJP used to do Hindu-Muslim politics in the past and is doing caste politics today.

Uttar Pradesh Police register a case

A case has been registered against the producers, director, actors etc. of the film ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ at Hazratganj Police Station. In a statement issued by the Lucknow Police Commissionerate, it has been clarified that strict action will be taken against acts that disrupt social harmony and hurt religious and communal sentiments. It has also been warned that strict action will be taken against elements that hurt the sentiments of any community and play with law and order.

Film association may take disciplinary action

The ‘Film Makers Association’ has also sent a notice to the makers of ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’. Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey had not applied for permission to use the title ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’. Therefore, using the title without permission may result in disciplinary action.

Actor Manoj Bajpayee issues an explanation

After the protest intensified, the film producer Neeraj Pandey and actor Manoj Bajpayee have issued a joint statement and given an explanation. Bajpayee wrote on ‘X’, ‘I respect the emotions and concerns people have shared, and I take them seriously. When something you are part of causes hurt to some people, it makes you pause and listen. This was not meant to be a statement about any community. The filmmakers have decided to take down the promotional material, in light of the public sentiment.’ Manoj Bajpayee plays the role of corrupt Police officer Ajay Dixit in this film.

Union Government issues notice to Netflix

Reportedly, the Union Government has issued a notice to the Netflix following the protests around the film.

Editorial Perspectives

  • The practice of insulting Brahmins is not new. Mayawati, who grew politically using her hatred for Brahmins, is facing a political decline since last few years. Therefore, the question should now be asked whether she has taken a pro-Brahmin stance to regain her political existence.
  • Many Brahmins have protected and promoted Hindu Dharma. Therefore, not just a few devout Hindus, but the entire Hindu community should oppose this film that mocks Brahmins.
