Navi Mumbai – A routine anti-narcotics operation turned into a violent street battle on the night of 31 January 2026, as drug traffickers launched a brazen attack on a Mumbai Police team using swords, firearms, and vehicles. The incident, which occurred around 11:50 pm in the Ulwe node of Navi Mumbai, was captured in a harrowing video obtained by the media. The footage shows a desperate struggle on the public road as criminals attempt to run over officers with motorcycles to evade arrest. In this case, crimes have been registered against Ismail Sheikh, Shahid Khan, Ayaz Khan, Asif Khan, Meraj Khan, Nizam, Shoaib, Mehraj, and other accused.

The ambush in Ulwe :

A 10-member team from the Mumbai Police, led by Assistant Police Inspector Kiran Mandre, had arrived in Ulwe following a specific tip-off regarding the movement of drug smugglers. Acting on information from a Police informant, API Mandre spotted the primary suspects, identified as Ismail Sheikh and Shahid Khan, travelling on a motorcycle accompanied by a mob of 10 to 15 associates.

As the Police moved in to intercept, the suspects unleashed a violent assault. The gang was armed with an array of lethal weapons, including swords, country-made pistols (desi katta), and hockey sticks.

The attackers first turned their violence toward the Police informants. One informant was slashed across the head with a sword, while another had a gun held to his chest in a terrifying death threat.

In a desperate bid to free a captured accomplice, a motorcyclist attempted to run over API Mandre. Other officers were forced to dodge sword swings as the traffickers fought to clear an escape route. While the informants sustained injuries, no Police officers were seriously hurt.
