Hate-Filled Remark by Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) — People coming from North India know only the Hindi language. As a result, they do not get good jobs. They come to Tamil Nadu and take up work such as cleaning tables, working as daily labourers, or selling pani puri, Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam said while speaking at an event. He further stated that due to Tamil Nadu’s two-language policy (Tamil and English), “our children are going to places like America and London and earning crores of rupees.”

Criticism by Opposition Parties !
The BJP criticised the statement, saying that several leaders of the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) have repeatedly mocked migrant workers, especially North Indians or Hindi-speaking people. At a time when incidents of violence against migrant workers are increasing in Tamil Nadu, such remarks are irresponsible and dangerous, the BJP said.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan also criticised the statement, saying that some leaders always want to remain in the limelight through controversial remarks. He said the government under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership is moving forward on the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
Congress MP Karti Chidambaram also criticised the DMK. He said that Tamil Nadu needs workers from other states, who can come and contribute to the state’s economy. Migrant workers are welcome in Tamil Nadu and are safe in the state, he added.
