During his visit to the United States, Doval met and conveyed this firm message to US National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to a report by the US news portal Bloomberg, this stance ultimately led the United States to conclude a trade agreement with India and reduce import tariffs on Indian goods from 50 percent to 18 percent.
According to a Bloomberg report, Doval had also said that India expects Trump and his associates to stop openly speaking against India so that relations can be normal. Situation began to change within a few days of Doval’s talks. On 16 September, Trump called Prime Minister Modi on his birthday and praised his work. By the end of the year there were four more phone calls between the two leaders.
