US media claims, Ajit Doval’s firm stand forced India–US Trade Agreement

Washington (US)- India is keen to end the current strained relations with the United States and is willing to restart negotiations on a trade agreement. However, it will not negotiate under pressure. Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor, made it clear that if President Donald Trump and his administration adopted an uncompromising approach, India would be prepared to wait until the end of their term. He also noted that India has successfully dealt with tough US administrations in the past.

During his visit to the United States, Doval met and conveyed this firm message to US National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to a report by the US news portal Bloomberg, this stance ultimately led the United States to conclude a trade agreement with India and reduce import tariffs on Indian goods from 50 percent to 18 percent.

According to a Bloomberg report, Doval had also said that India expects Trump and his associates to stop openly speaking against India so that relations can be normal. Situation began to change within a few days of Doval’s talks. On 16 September, Trump called Prime Minister Modi on his birthday and praised his work. By the end of the year there were four more phone calls between the two leaders. During this period the two countries continued to move towards a tax reduction agreement.US media claims, Ajit Doval’s firm stand forces India–US Trade Agreement India will not surrender to pressure and is prepared to wait until the end of US President Donald Trump’s term, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has stated.
