Khalistanis vandalise Indian Embassy in Croatia, Europe

  • The Tricolour removed and the Khalistani flag hoisted

  • Terrorist Pannun threatens an attack in Delhi on Republic Day

  • India responds mildly as usual

Zagreb (Croatia) – The banned Khalistani separatist organisation Sikhs for Justice, led by Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, vandalised the Indian Embassy in Zagreb, the capital of the European country Croatia. The Indian national flag was removed and a Khalistani flag was hoisted, and threats were issued to attack India on Republic Day. Slogans supporting Khalistan were also raised during the incident.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has strongly condemned the incident. The MEA stated that the matter has been firmly taken up with Croatian authorities both in India and in Croatia. Action has been demanded against those responsible for this reprehensible act. The MEA warned that such incidents clearly demonstrate how dangerous terrorist groups can be. These acts expose the true nature of the perpetrators and their malicious intentions. Therefore, police forces around the world need to remain vigilant. It is expected that the Croatian government will enhance the security of the embassy to ensure that such an incident does not recur.

Claiming responsibility for the attack, Sikhs for Justice leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun released a video. He is a wanted fugitive terrorist in India.

The incident occurred late at night on 21 January 2026. This is the first such incident at the Indian Embassy in Croatia. Slogans such as “Khalistan Zindabad, Hindustan Murdabad” were written on the boundary wall of the embassy. “Khalistan Zindabad” was also written on the embassy signboard.

Pannun’s open threat

Terrorist Pannun has threatened to target Delhi on 26 January. He also displayed an image showing a sniper symbol aimed at India Gate in Delhi. Pannun referred to Operation Blue Star carried out by the Indian Army at the Golden Temple in Amritsar in 1984. In the video, Pannun stated that after freeing Punjab from Indian control, the Indian Embassy would be used as the “Democratic Republic of Khalistan.”

Growing influence of Khalistan supporters in Europe

This act of vandalism indicates that Sikhs for Justice and Khalistani elements are expanding their presence in more countries, as there had previously been no record of Khalistan supporters operating in Croatia. The incident has occurred at a time when India is strengthening its relations with Europe. A historic trade agreement with the European Union is expected soon, along with enhanced security and defence partnerships. Croatia is a member of both the European Union and NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, a military alliance comprising 29 countries worldwide).

Editorial Perspective

In order to curb the growing nuisance caused by Khalistani elements abroad, India must abandon its soft stance and exert firm pressure to take decisive action against Khalistanis.
