Muslims allowed to offer namaz from 1 p.m. till 3 p.m. on Vasant Panchami at Bhojshala (MP)

  • Supreme Court’s decision regarding Vasant Panchami in Bhojshala (Madhya Pradesh)

  • Hindus can perform puja at other times

New Delhi – The Supreme Court has ruled on the demand to allow Hindus to worship for the entire day on January 23rd, i.e. on the day of Vasant Panchami, in Bhojshala, Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. On January 23rd, Hindus can perform puja here from sunrise till 1 p.m., and from 3 p.m. till sunset. Muslims are given 1p.m. till 3 p.m. timing to offer namaz. In this regard, advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain of ‘Hindu Front for Justice’ had filed a petition. Since January 23rd falls on a Friday and Muslims come here for namaz every Friday, Hindus had demanded permission to perform puja that entire day.

The ‘Hindu Front for Justice’ had demanded that only Hindus be allowed to perform puja of Goddess Saraswati in the Bhojshala on Vasant Panchami and that Muslims be barred from entering on that day. Advocate Salman Khurshid, representing the mosque committee, opposed the petition. Khurshid said that the petition was not worthy of hearing as the same had happened 3 times in the past. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the Court allowed Hindus to perform puja and Muslim to offer namaz.

The Court said in its order that the estimated number of Muslims offering namaz should be given to the District Collector today itself so that admit cards can be issued to maintain law and order. It appealed to both the parties to maintain mutual respect and trust.
