Signals that France has declined the US invitation to join the Gaza Peace Board!

Trump threatens to impose a 200% import duty on French wine!

Washington, D.C. (USA) – US President Donald Trump has begun issuing tariff threats to other countries in connection with the proposed ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza. The first target of this pressure appears to be French President Emmanuel Macron. Trump has warned that if France refuses to join the Gaza Peace Board, the United States will impose a 200% import duty on French wine and champagne.

This development has raised the possibility of heightened tensions between the US and France. Differences between the two countries are already evident over the Greenland issue, and this latest warning could further strain bilateral relations.

1. Donald Trump has announced the formation of a ‘Board of Peace’ for the reconstruction of Gaza and has invited several countries; including India and Pakistan; to participate. However, the initiative has received little response at the international level. Most countries have chosen to remain silent, while France, Canada, and a few others have indicated their unwillingness to participate.

2. The Board, to be chaired by Donald Trump, includes former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. To obtain permanent membership of the ‘Board of Peace,’ countries will be required to contribute USD 1 billion (approximately ₹9,000 crore). Trump has adopted a stance of threatening higher import duties on countries that refuse to join the board, further underscoring the coercive nature of the proposal.
