Dhaka (Bangladesh) – The interim Government in Bangladesh published a report on incidents related to minority communities. There are 645 incidents reported in connection with the minority population in Bangladesh; out of which only 71 are claimed to be communal in nature while 574 cases were non-communal. The communal incidents include mainly religious places or vandalising idols. This report has been published based on the data registered with the Police all over the country.

In the remaining cases, the causes were stated to be land disputes, tiff between neighbours, political hostility, theft, sexual oppression and personal enmity, etc. but they were not directly related to religion as per the report.

The Interim Government’s Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, explained that every incident is serious and cannot be ignored; but wrong information and panic should not be created; therefore, correct classification is required. Most of the cases related to minorities are the part of challenges in maintaining law and order. Under the Constitution, it is the Government’s legal and moral  duty to protect Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and all other communities and do justice to them.

1. In many cases, the Police have officially registered cases and there have been arrests in some of the cases as per the report. Investigations are going in remaining cases. Special attention has been paid to the incidents related to religious places and have been sensitive in nature.

2. Every year 3000-3500 people die in crimes involving violence

3. The Government has admitted that there are still law and order challenges at the national level. Every year, about 3000-3500 people die in crimes involving violence; but the Government has claimed that there is improvement in the situation due to the prompt action taken in such cases.

Editorial Perspective

It is a known fact that all attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh were out of their hatred for Hindus. The truth will not change let the Government may publish any number of such false reports.
