Open Doors’ report is an excellent example of ideological bias against Hindus: Mr Savio Rodrigues, Christian writer

Reaction by Christian writer Mr Savio Rodrigues to a report that includes India among the most dangerous countries for Christians

New Delhi – ‘The report released by Open Doors is a prime example of ideological bias hidden under the guise of human rights analysis. It deliberately ignores the ground reality. India is a civilised nation where every major religion not only exists but has flourished—and Christianity is no exception. Churches function freely in India; Christian institutions run some of the country’s finest schools and hospitals; and Christian individuals occupy the highest constitutional, bureaucratic, and corporate positions’, noted writer and Editor of The Goa Chronicle, Mr Savio Rodrigues, said.

The organisation Open Doors has released a report on the persecution and attacks faced by Christians in 2025. In this study titled World Watch List 2026, India has been ranked 12th among the 15 most dangerous countries for Christians. Mr Savio Rodrigues made the above statement while speaking to Sanatan Prabhat.

Mr Rodrigues further said,

1. The claim that “to be Indian is to be Hindu” is a narrative pushed by external forces to malign Hindu society.

2. Indian nationalism is civic in nature, not theocratic like that of Muslim countries. Religious conversion is not illegal; only conversions carried out through force or deception are questioned. This is something that must be done in any sovereign nation. Portraying such opposition as “systematic discrimination” is intellectually dishonest thing to do.

3. The real challenge lies in aggressive proselytisation aimed at religious conversion. In such cases, local culture is disrespected and the vulnerability of Hindus is exploited.

Christian Missionaries carry out conversions of Hindus by displaying fake magic: Francois Gautier

Sanatan Prabhat also spoke with French journalist and writer Mr Francois Gautier, who has been living in India for the past 35 years. He said, “I am married to an Indian Hindu woman. In India, I have never been attacked or persecuted for being Christian. Nor have I ever personally witnessed atrocities against any Christian. On the other hand, I have seen Christian missionaries who come to India using Western financial aid to pay poor Hindus and convert them. This is highly unethical, and conversions are carried out by showing fake miracles.”

The narrative ‘We are being persecuted’ is used as a weapon to establish Christian dominance

Mr Gautier further said that he has closely studied Indian history and has also written books on it. Francis Xavier and other Catholic Christians committed extreme atrocities against Hindus and Muslims alike. In Goa, Hindus were massacred through the Inquisition. Hindu girls were forcibly married to Portuguese soldiers. This is never mentioned. He has established a museum in Pune that pictorially documents the atrocities committed by the Portuguese against Hindus. On the other hand, despite the BJP being in power in Goa for many years, not a single museum has been established there to document Portuguese atrocities against Hindus. Such reports are concocted conspiracies designed to defame Hindus. Christians use the narrative “we are persecuted” as a weapon to establish their dominance in any country.

4. Reports like those by Open Doors do not protect minorities; instead, they prove them immature and deepen communal divides between Hindus and Christians. India does not need sermons from organisations that begin with prejudice and end with propaganda.

Anti-Hindu atrocities do not receive adequate coverage because Hindus do not control the media: Maria Wirth

Sanatan Prabhat also spoke with renowned German author Maria Wirth, who follows Hindu spirituality in her life. She said that the report released by Open Doors is itself an anti-Hindu narrative. Until previous years, Open Doors reports were based on only 10 dangerous countries; however, in order to include India in the list at any cost, they expanded it to 15 countries. They exaggerate atrocities against Jews, but not those against Hindus. Atrocities against Hindus are termed “Hindumisia,” yet Hindus neither dominate nor control the media. This is why such atrocities do not receive adequate coverage.

Wirth further stated that in her book ‘Why Hindu Dharma Is Under Attack by Muslims, Christians and the Left’, she has provided detailed information about the anti-Hindu conspiracy. She has also discussed this in her article titled ‘Should Hindus Emphasize the Atrocities Committed Against Them Like the Jews Do?’

She added that her friends from Switzerland had once sent her a news item claiming that 200 churches in India had been burnt down and that families of Christian priests could lose their lives. This is a rumour that has been propagated since 2010. Her question is: if Christians were truly facing such large-scale attacks in India, would they even be able to utter a single word in protest against such injustice?
