Hindus Form the Largest Share of Victims

Dhaka (Bangladesh) — According to a recently released report by Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities, as many as 116 members of minority communities were killed between 6 June 2025 and 5 January 2026. The majority of the victims belonged to the Hindu community, while Buddhists and Christians were also among those killed.
The report states that these killings occurred across all eight administrative divisions of Bangladesh and in at least 45 districts. Of the 116 cases, 12 were mob lynchings. The remaining incidents included targeted killings, deaths in custody or under suspicious circumstances, and murders following false allegations—particularly accusations of blasphemy.
Government Negligence Under the Yunus Administration Exposed
The report further highlights serious negligence on the part of the government, police, and administrative machinery. In many cases, complaints are either registered after significant delay or not recorded at all. Investigations are described as superficial, victim families are allegedly intimidated, and action against the accused is rarely taken. This has emboldened perpetrators and severely eroded public trust in the system.
The report warns that if this violence continues unchecked, it could pose a grave threat to Bangladesh’s stability and social cohesion. Growing concern has also been expressed at the international level, with calls for strict action against those responsible and stronger measures to ensure the safety and protection of minority communities.
