Over 90 precision munitions were used in the strikes, according to information released by the US military’s Central Command (United States Central Command). The attacks were conducted around 12:30 p.m. US time on January 10 as part of a mission named “Operation Hawkeye Strike.”

The US military stated that the operation demonstrates America’s firm commitment to combating terrorism. The objectives of the mission are to prevent attacks on US troops and allied forces, eliminate future threats, and establish security in the region. Following the strikes, the United States also issued a warning that anyone who attempts to harm its soldiers will be tracked down and eliminated from anywhere in the world.

Why did the US carry out the attack ?

Last month, in an attack carried out by the Islamic State in Palmyra, Syria, two military officers from a unit of the Iowa National Guard, along with one US civilian, were killed. Following this incident, the United States launched Operation Hawkeye Strike on December 19.
