Aadhaar Card checked to Prevent Non-Hindus Entry to Haridwar Ghat

‘Teerth Purohit’ Ujjwal Pandit says that everyone is asked to carry Aadhaar Card with him/her.

Haridwar (Uttarakhand) – Before the start of ‘Kumbha-Parva’, Aadhaar Card verification of each and every person is going on to prevent non-Hindus’ entry at ‘Har ki Pauri’ ghat and to check that no non-Hindu is selling anything in the area.

1. The priests and Saints-Seers present at the ghat felt that such strict decision is essential because some people, in the name of earning money, were engaged in things that hurt devotees’ faith and it has been leading to fights and rows over things.

2. Saints feel that ‘Kumbha-Parva’ is a very auspicious festival and Haridwar is the entrance of God’s land; therefore, ‘the site of ‘Kumbha-Parva’ and ghat area should be totally banned for non-Hindus.

3. Their demand is strongly opposed by Muslim organisations and other people. They feel that checking of identity and restriction to go to ghat exhibits narrow-mindedness which will harm brotherliness.

4. ‘Teerth Purohit’ Ujjwal Pandit says that everyone is asked to carry Aadhaar Card with him/her. Information of any non-Hindu found selling anything in Har ki Pauri or ghat area will be given to ‘Shri Ganga Sabha’ and action will be taken. It is done to maintain the sanctity of ghat.

5. ‘Shri Ganga Sabha’ claims that there is no demand to form new rules; however, some rules existing for 110 years should be followed.

6. Mahamandaleshwar Swami Rupendra Prakash Maharaj stated that ‘Kumbha-Parva’ is held at four holy places and Haridwar is the entrance of the God’s land; therefore, non-Hindus should not be allowed to enter ‘Kumbha’ or ghat areas. If a devotee comes with deep faith, it will be a different matter; but ban needs to be imposed on those who play with our faith.

Opposition by ‘Akhada Parishad’

‘Akhada Parishad’s President Mahant Ravindra Puri stated that Haridwar Municipality Act has certain provisions since the British rule; but the present situation is different. Muslim community starts living in the large areas like Jwalapur, once municipal corporation is formed. In this background, such demand would not be practical in the whole Haridwar or the entire ‘Kumbha’ area. If the Government is considering the demand for Haridwar city or certain limited areas, it will be welcomed but such ban in the entire ‘Kumbha’ area spread across three districts, will not be appropriate.

True Saints do not speak against any religion – AIMIM

Nayyar Kazmi, the regional president of ‘The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM)’, Uttarakhand, said that true Saints and great souls never speak against any religion. (Is there such true Saint or great soul amongst Muslims ? – Editor) Things are done in the name of Sages and Saints which create rift among communities. (Hindus never talk about division. After India’s partition, Muslims didn’t go to Pakistan and they have created a situation to divide this country again. – Editor) Presently, the State is going through many problems. (Does he mean rise in problems like ‘Majhar jihad, love jihad in Uttarakhand ? – Editor) These problems are created to divert people’s attention from the main issues like employment for youth, women’s problems and other issues.
