22 India Ship Crew arrested in Nigeria, when their ship was found to be carrying narcotics

Lagos (Nigeria) – At Lagos’s Apapa Port the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), raided the ship MV Aruna Hulya, and seized 31.500 Kilograms of Cocaine. In this matter they have arrested the Indian Captain and 21 crew members of the ship.

The families of the crew are naturally worried as they have been arrested in a foreign country for smuggling such large amounts of drugs. Did these crew members willingly indulge in these smuggling activities or were they duped into it, will now be investigated at an international level.

Nigeria has long been considered a trafficking and production hub for drugs bound for Europe and other African countries. The agency said in November that it arrested 20 Filipino sailors caught ferrying at least 20 kilogrammes of cocaine from Brazil to the same port.
