Bangladeshi nationals barred from hotels in Siliguri, Bengal

Decision by the ‘Greater Siliguri Hoteliers Welfare Association’ in the backdrop of rising atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh

Kolkata (Bengal)– Considering the situation that has developed in Bangladesh since last year, the Greater Siliguri Hoteliers Welfare Association has decided not to allow Bangladeshi nationals to stay in hotels in Siliguri. The Association has also clearly stated that even those entering India on medical visas will not be provided accommodation. This information was shared by the Association’s Joint Secretary, Ujjwal Ghosh.

Ghosh further stated that they strongly condemn the current situation in Bangladesh, the sensitivity of the Siliguri Corridor (the only vulnerable land corridor connecting the seven northeastern states with the rest of India), and statements made by some leaders there regarding the seven northeastern states of India. He added that henceforth, even those arriving on medical visas will not be granted lodging. “For us, the nation comes first and business later,” he said.

Bangladeshis get facilities in India, but Hindus face atrocities in Bangladesh

Meanwhile, a hotel in the Junction area has also decided not to provide rooms to Bangladeshi tourists. The hotel has put up a board outside declaring a boycott of Bangladesh. Hotel manager Dilip Mallik said that Bangladeshi citizens receive many facilities in India, while Hindus face atrocities in Bangladesh. Since such incidents are unacceptable, their hotel has decided not to offer accommodation to Bangladeshi tourists.

Stickers on private vehicles as well

Some vehicle owners have also put up stickers on their vehicles stating, “We have stopped providing services to Bangladeshi citizens.”

Imports and exports should also be stopped : Traders’ demand

Local trader Sujan Das from the Junction area said that imports and exports between India and Bangladesh should also be halted. Facilities such as transport, hotels, retail trade, and medical treatment should not be provided to Bangladeshi citizens. “We demand a complete boycott,” he said.

Editorial Perspective

Devout Hindu organisations have held protests across the country against atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, and now business owners are expressing their protest in their own way. The question Hindus are asking now is: when will the government recognise the seriousness of these atrocities and take concrete action to protect Hindus ?
