Dogs bite 1 lakh 28 thousand citizens in Mumbai in a year

Mumbai – Dogs bit 1 lakh 28 thousand people in 2024. As per the report in the year 2024 given by the ‘Humane Society International’ as prescribed by the ‘Animal Welfare Board’, there are 40 lakh stray dogs in the State of Maharashtra and 91 thousand seven hundred and fifty-seven in Mumbai.  Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gave this information in the Legislative Assembly. Shiv Sena MLA Sunil Shinde had raised a question regarding this.

1. Measures were being taken to sterilise stray dogs, vaccinate them, eradicate rabies, and prevent human-dog conflicts.

2. A dedicated ‘web portal’ is being set up to address citizens’ complaints. A helpline number 7564976649 has been assigned. A committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of the District Collector to provide shelter for stray dogs.

3. A rabid dog ​​bit 26 students in a western suburb. In Dindoshi 4 people were bitten by 1 dog.

4. Shiv Sena chief …..(Pratod) Sunil Prabhu had made a demand for prompt capturing of these stray dogs in earnest. After that, the Talika (Temporary Speaker) President, Sameer Kunawar, ordered the Government to take immediate note of this.
