Karnataka Chief Minister’s unsolicited and misplaced advice to Hindus for population control

Dharwad (Karnataka) – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “we all are human beings and must live as humans. In this context Inter-caste marriages should increase, as they promote equality.” He advised that the country is witnessing a rise in population and, therefore, every couple should have only one or two children.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the wedding reception of Navin, son of MLA Konareddy. The event also included a mass marriage ceremony for 75 couples. Siddaramaiah participated in this event and offered the above advice on population control.

1. Siddaramaiah said that Konareddy had not merely solemnised his son’s marriage but also organised a mass marriage ceremony for 75 couples. More than one lakh people attended the event, making it a large fair rather than just a wedding ceremony, he remarked. 2. He also stated that people belonging to Muslim and Christian communities are entering into marriages with Hindus. (Please note that Siddaramaiah did not acknowledge that such cases are nothing but ‘Love Jihad’. Will he be able to provide statistics on how many Muslim and Christian girls marry Hindu youth ? – Editor)

Editorial Perspective

Does this advice apply only to Hindus ? The fact is Hindus do not even need this advice, as most Hindu families already limit themselves to having one or two children. Why does the Chief Minister not offer the same advice to Muslims who marry four women and have many children ?
