Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy urges inclusion of Shrimad Bhagwat Gita in school syllabus

Bangalore (Karnataka) – Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H D Kumaraswamy has written to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan demanding that the sacred Hindu scripture Bhagwat Gita be introduced in school curricula across the country.

In his letter, Kumaraswamy said that introducing selected shlokas from the Bhagwat Gita would help cultivate ethics, clarity of thought, and strength of character among students, thereby shaping them into responsible citizens. He noted that Bharat has always been a land of saints, knowledge, and enduring civilisational values, with Sanatan Dharma upholding the universal ideal of ‘Vasudaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family).

Kumaraswamy pointed out that in His eighth avatara as Shrikrushna, Shri Vishnu imparted the eternal teachings of the Bhagwadgeeta, emphasising Nishkama Karma and the importance of sincere, duty-bound action. These teachings, he said, hold immense relevance in the current global environment.

The Minister also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Krishna Matha in Udupi, where the Prime Minister attended a Gita recitation programme and highlighted the core principles of Sanatan Dharma, once again reaffirming the message of ‘Vasudaiva Kutumbakam’.

Kumaraswamy further stated that local leaders and parents should be encouraged to participate in Bhagwat Gita sessions. He added that children should also be introduced to the Ramayana and the Mahabharata alongside the Bhagavad Gita.
