Turkiye supplying funds and weapons to Pakistan and Bangladesh for Anti-India Activities

New Delhi – India has taken an uncompromising stand against terrorism in recent years. Even so, terror attacks were witnessed recently in Pahalgam (Kashmir) and near the Red Fort in Delhi. Now, intelligence inputs indicate that Turkiye, an Islamic nation, has been providing large amounts of money and weapons to Pakistan and Bangladesh to fuel anti-India operations.

1. Over the past few days, Turkiye is said to have increased its assistance to Pakistan. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, Bangladesh too has reportedly begun adopting an anti-India role.

2. According to intelligence sources, Turkiye is extending substantial financial support to Jamaat-e-Islami, a hardline Islamist organisation in Bangladesh. Turkiye’s intelligence agency has also allegedly facilitated the opening of a new office for Jamaat-e-Islami in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area.

3. Reports state that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is attempting to strengthen Islamic organisations in South Asia. To secure large-scale funding from Turkiye, Ashik Chowdhury, head of Bangladesh’s Investment Development Authority, visited Turkiye. During this visit, he visited an arms manufacturing facility and held multiple meetings. Intelligence inputs suggest that Turkiye’s continued support to hardline groups could adversely affect India’s northeastern states of Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya. It is also reported that Turkiye has been providing financial aid to Pakistan’s spy agency, the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence).

4. Turkiye is said to be conducting workshops across South Asian countries, promoting radicalisation under the pretext of offering scholarships. Sadiq Qayyam, a leader of a major Bangladeshi student organisation, also visited Turkiye recently. Intelligence officials believe Turkiye aims to leverage Bangladesh to push extremist activities into India. Indian agencies have taken note of these developments and are maintaining heightened vigilance.

Editorial Perspective

India must not merely adopt a cautious stance against Turkiye but give it a fitting lesson as well.
