Nashik (Maharashtra) – A three-year-old girl in Malegaon was brutally assaulted and killed, sparking widespread outrage in the city. Police have arrested the suspected accused, Vijay Khairnar (24), in connection with the case. As news spread that the accused would be produced in court, an angry crowd gathered outside the premises. Protesters attempted to break open the courthouse entrance and force their way inside, prompting Police to use mild lathi-charge to control the situation. The crowd reportedly included a large number of women and youth.
Considering the growing public unrest, Police decided not to bring the accused physically to the courtroom. Instead, the hearing was conducted via video conference for safety. Speaking to the media, Maharashtra State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar called the Malegaon incident ‘deeply unfortunate’ and demanded the death penalty for the perpetrator.
