Injured victims to receive ₹5,000

Bengaluru – The Karnataka Government has decided that if a person dies due to a dog bite, the victim’s family will receive ₹5 lakh as compensation. Those injured in dog-bite incidents will be provided ₹5,000. This decision comes in response to the rising number of dog-attack cases in the State.
Victims will be eligible for ₹5,000 if the dog bite results in a skin-piercing wound, a deep puncture wound, or bluish-black bruises on the body. Of this amount, ₹3,500 will be given directly to the affected individual, while the remaining amount will be deposited in the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust, which will cover treatment expenses.
Dog menace in Tamil Nadu too
Congress leader P Chidambaram expressed concern over the increasing dog attacks and the deaths caused by rabies in Tamil Nadu. He stated that in 2024, more than 5 lakh dog-bite cases were recorded in Tamil Nadu, resulting in the deaths of 28 people due to rabies. He emphasised the need for vaccination, sterilisation and systematic control of stray dogs for public safety.
