Firozpur (Punjab) – Naveen Arora, son of senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker Baldev Raj Arora, was shot dead here. Naveen owned a shop in Mochi Bazaar. On the night of the incident, as he was closing his shop and heading home, two unidentified men stopped him near the UCO Bank and opened fire. A bullet struck him directly in the head, killing him on the spot. Initial investigation suggests that this was a targeted killing. The incident has created an atmosphere of fear in the city. Traders downed their shutters in protest.
Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party also took to the streets, expressing strong dissatisfaction with the government and the police. They stated that criminals in the State have become emboldened and that law enforcement has grown weak. Police have declared high alert across the city and set up checkpoints. Multiple teams are now working to trace the assailants.
Editorial PerspectiveFor the past several years, devout Hindu organisations, their leaders, office-bearers and devout Hindus have been consistently targeted and killed in Punjab; yet successive governments of all parties have failed to protect them. This is shameful ! |
