‘Jaish-e-Mohammed’ behind the blast
Investigations have revealed that the devastating explosion that took place on 10 November near Gate 1 of Chandni Chowk Metro Station, close to the Red Fort, was carried out by jihadi terrorists. Earlier, 2,900 kilograms of ammonium nitrate had been seized from Faridabad in Haryana, and three persons — Dr Adil, Dr Muzammil, and his partner Dr Shaheen Shahid — had been arrested. Their associate, Dr Umar Nabi, is believed to have executed the suicide attack near the Red Fort, in which he was also killed. He had used a Hyundai i20 car for the blast, and two others who were in the car are also reported to have died. The terrorists are said to have belonged to the outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. One person is currently in custody for interrogation. Preliminary investigation has confirmed the use of ammonium nitrate, fuel, and a detonator in the blast.
Blast possibly unplanned
It is suspected that the explosion occurred in panic after the arrests of Dr Adil, Dr Muzammil and Dr Shaheen, and the seizure of weapons and explosives from Faridabad. Dr Umar reportedly had leftover explosives that he could not dispose of, and hence detonated them. Investigators believe the group was acting under orders from a handler. Their original targets in Delhi may have been other prominent locations, but following the arrests, they carried out the blast near the Red Fort instead.
Most of the victims believed to be Muslims
Officially, 12 people have been reported dead, though apart from Dr Umar, the names of the others have not been disclosed. The blast occurred in a Muslim-majority locality, suggesting that most of the deceased may also be Muslims. Among the dead are two women, and 24 others were injured. The site of the explosion is barely 100 metres from the Gauri Shankar temple and a Jain temple. It is suspected that Dr Umar might have been driving towards these temples when the bomb went off prematurely.
Dr Umar waited in the car for 3 hours
CCTV footage shows Dr Umar waiting for three hours in his car in the parking area outside Sunehri Masjid before the blast. He did not step out once during this time and appeared to be on the phone, possibly waiting for someone.
Car used in the blast registered to a Muslim owner
According to the police, the Hyundai i20 used in the explosion had three occupants. The car was registered in the name of Salman from Gurugram, Haryana. Police have detained Salman for questioning. He had sold the car to a Pulwama resident named Tariq, who is now absconding. The vehicle has reportedly changed hands seven times within a year.
More explosives seized from Faridabad
Police have recovered a large cache of additional explosives from Sector 56 in Faridabad. Earlier, 2,900 kilograms of ammonium nitrate had already been seized from there.
Pulwama doctor arrested
In connection with the blast, Dr Sajjad Ahmad from Pulwama in Jammu & Kashmir has been arrested. He is known to have been a close associate of Dr Umar.
Dr Shaheen Shahid – commander of Jaish’s women’s wing

According to intelligence sources, Dr Shaheen Shahid was not merely a doctor but also the commander of Jamaat-ul-Mominaat, the women’s wing of Jaish-e-Mohammed. She lived in Lalbagh, Lucknow. The organisation’s chief in Pakistan is Sadia Azhar — sister of terrorist Masood Azhar and wife of Yusuf Azhar, one of the masterminds of the Kandahar plane hijacking.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah holds review meeting
Following the blast, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level security meeting at his residence on the morning of 11 November. The meeting lasted for about an hour and a half.
Al-Falah University under investigation
Faridabad police have surrounded Al-Falah University with heavy deployment of forces, and searches are underway. Dr Adil, Dr Shaheen, and Dr Muzammil were all associated with this university. Searches are also being conducted in mosques in Fatehpur Taga village, Faridabad, where Dr Muzammil had stored 2,563 kilograms of ammonium nitrate in a rented house.
Dr Umar’s mother and brother detained
Dr Umar Nabi, who carried out the blast, hailed from Pulwama, Kashmir. Police have detained his mother and brother for questioning. Their DNA samples have been collected to confirm Umar’s identity. Umar had completed his MBBS in 2017 from the Government Medical College, Srinagar, and was practising at Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad.
Investigation team of 500 officers
Over 500 officers from various agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau, National Investigation Agency, National Security Guard, and local police, are working on the case in multiple teams. They are scrutinising more than 1,000 CCTV recordings as part of the investigation.
Pakistan Air Force on alert !

Alarmed by the Delhi blast, Pakistan has increased aerial patrols along the Rajasthan border. Senior defence officials held an emergency meeting, and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif conducted late-night discussions with top authorities.
Editorial Perspectives1. India had officially declared during ‘Operation Sindoor’ that any terrorist attack would be treated as an act of war. Since this explosion is indeed an act of war, ‘Operation Sindoor 2’ must now be launched — and this time, it should not be left unfinished. The people of India expect the complete and permanent elimination of Pakistan. 2. Investigations have revealed that as many as five doctors were involved in this blast, including a woman doctor. What does this indicate ? Does becoming a doctor not change their jihadi mindset ? Where does this radical mentality originate from ? It is time for a nationwide discussion on this issue. |
