On 7 November, the Agriculture Department had released a Government Resolution announcing its new emblem and motto; however, the emblem featured an image of a ‘Jersey cow’ instead of an Indian cow. Sanatan Prabhat highlighted this issue in its 8 November report. The newspaper’s representative also shared this report with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane through their accounts on ‘X’. Following this, the Agriculture Department corrected the emblem. The newly unveiled emblem now features an Indian desi cow.
The Sanatan Prabhat report had stated – “While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been appealing for the preservation of the indigenous cow, Maharashtra became the first State in the country to accord the status of ‘State Mother’ to the Indian cow. The State Government has also announced a grant of ₹50 per cow to support indigenous cows in gaushalas. Despite this, the Agriculture Department had used the image of a Jersey cow in its emblem. This contradicts both the State and Union Governments’ policies on agriculture and indigenous cattle. Therefore, it is expected that the Agriculture Department should amend its emblem and promote the Indian cow.”
This is the new emblem and motto of the Agriculture Department !
To promote agricultural progress in tune with the times, the Maharashtra Agriculture Department has introduced a new emblem, along with a new motto and tagline. The new motto is ‘Krushi Kalyan Kartavyam’ (“Welfare of agriculture is duty”), and the new tagline is ‘Shashwat Sheti – Samruddha Shetkari’ (“Sustainable farming – prosperous farmer”). The emblem features a sapling held in a hand, a tractor, an Indian cow, and symbols of modern technology.
