Mumbai – The Union Government has begun the process of auctioning properties linked to Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon, the key masterminds behind the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts. The properties are currently being identified and listed for valuation.

Both men and their families reportedly own several properties in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra. In Khed (Ratnagiri), four land parcels registered in the name of Dawood Ibrahim’s mother were previously put up for auction, collectively valued at around ₹20 lakh. However, no buyers came forward — marking the fifth failed attempt to sell the land. Earlier, a bidder who had offered ₹2 crore for another parcel failed to complete the payment and was subsequently blacklisted.

Tiger Memon’s family is believed to own multiple properties in Mahim, Bandra, Vakola and South Mumbai. Notably, a flat in the Al Hussaini building in Mahim — allegedly used to plan the 1993 blasts — is also proposed to be auctioned. The Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA) authority has already taken possession of this flat along with eight other properties.

Key properties identified :

1.Three flats in the Al Hussaini building, Mahim (linked to the planning of the 1993 blasts).

2. A 10,000 sq. metre land parcel in Vakola, estimated value ₹400 crore, currently encroached.

3. Flats and commercial spaces in Zaveri Bazaar, Bandra and Kurla.

4. SAFEMA has informed the TADA Court about 17 properties belonging to the Memon family, of which eight have already been seized.

Valuation work is currently underway, and the auction process is expected to commence in December or January. The government aims to fully assert control over illegally acquired assets connected to organised crime and terrorism. Proceeds from the auction are expected to be channelled towards national security initiatives and social welfare programmes.
