Suspended BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal writes to Union Home Minister Amit Shah

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Suspended BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding that ‘halal certification’ be banned in Karnataka.
I have written a letter to the Hon'ble Home Minister Shri @AmitShah Ji to ban Halal certifying agencies in the country, in line with the ban imposed by the Uttar Pradesh Government. In his letter, Yatnal has stated the following points:
1. Through the system of halal certification, certain organisations in Karnataka are misusing funds; therefore, both the certification process and the organisations issuing such certificates should be banned.
2. For reasons of national security, the Uttar Pradesh Government has already decided to ban such organisations. On similar lines, I wish to draw your attention to the urgent need to prohibit the misuse of ‘halal funds’ and the operations of halal certification bodies.
3. In November 2023, I had written to Union Minister of Consumer Affairs Piyush Goyal, demanding a ban on halal certification agencies.
4. Under the guise of religious institutions, several Islamic organisations are actively promoting halal certification in various sectors such as meat production, food products, cosmetics, and other consumer goods. Major examples include Halal India, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind Halal Trust, Global Islamic Sharia, Halal India Pvt Ltd, Halal Certification Services India Pvt Ltd, and Jamiat Ulama-e-Maharashtra.

5. Evidence suggests that the large sums of money collected through these certifications are being used to fund anti-national activities, support terrorism, provide legal aid to those involved in terror-related crimes, and propagate literature promoting terrorism and jihad.
Editorial PerspectiveWhy should such a demand even be necessary ? By now, the government should have imposed a nationwide ban on halal certification ! |
