New Delhi – India must remain prepared to counter nuclear and biological attacks in the future, said CDS General Anil Chauhan. He was speaking at an event held at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi to mark 100 years of the Military Nursing Service.

General Chauhan added, “In today’s era of information-centric warfare, medical data holds significant strategic value. The DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid – the molecule that carries genetic material and defines a person’s unique biological identity) of Indians is quite distinct. Our immunity responds differently depending on environmental conditions and infections. Hence, protecting personal medical data has become crucial. This includes medical history, diagnostic reports, and health records.”

He further noted, “Operational data, health-based deployments and relocation strategies must be kept confidential. Even though the responsibility for safeguarding such information does not lie directly with the Military Nursing Service, awareness of these challenges is vital. Our nursing education must incorporate future threats. The risk of biological attacks is expected to grow. Radiation-related threats require specific treatment protocols, and these must be included as part of our training.”
