Proposal to Ban Diwali Firecrackers in Mississauga, Canada

Strong Opposition from Hindu Organizations

Caroline Parrish, Mayor of the city of Mississauga

Mississauga (Canada) – A proposal has been put forward to ban firecrackers during Diwali in the city. Hindu organizations have strongly opposed it, stating that this decision specifically targets Hindus in Canada and will directly destroy Diwali’s cultural traditions.

The Hindu Canadian Foundation and the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) criticized the city’s Mayor, Carolyn Parrish. They said the reason for imposing the ban is unclear and described the decision as a direct attack on Hindu culture.

They further stated that a small but organized group is deliberately spreading misinformation and lodging complaints against Hindu festivals. (How many Hindus abroad, unlike anti-Hindu elements, work vigilantly to repel such attacks by staying united? – Editor).

This move is being used to restrict thousands of people who celebrate festivals peacefully. The organizations emphasized that now is the time to stand up for one’s religion, culture, and to preserve rich traditions for future generations.

The Hindu Canadian Foundation and Coalition of Hindus of North America have called upon Hindus to unite against this proposal on October 1st. A protest has been organized at Mississauga City Hall.
