Dubai/New Delhi – After India defeated Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup cricket tournament in Dubai, Indian players refused to accept the winner’s trophy and medals from Mohsin Naqvi, who is both the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and the President of the Asian Cricket Council, as well as Pakistan’s Home Minister. As a result, Naqvi himself carried the trophy away. Following this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) warned him to hand over the trophy to India. Meanwhile, after India’s victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X : ‘#OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers (sic)’.

Indian players teased Naqvi by pretending to accept the trophy but never actually did. Despite repeated announcements calling the Indian team to the stage to collect the trophy, the players refused to go. After nearly an hour of waiting, the presentation ceremony was cancelled, and Naqvi took the trophy away in his capacity as ACC President. During the incident, the crowd loudly chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ !

First time ever a winning team wasn’t given the trophy : Captain Suryakumar Yadav

Speaking to the press after the match, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said:
‘Since I started playing cricket, this is the first time I’ve seen a winning team not being handed the trophy. We worked so hard to win this tournament. But whatever the case, it’s fine. For me, being in the Indian dressing room with all our players and teammates is the real trophy’.
Naqvi’s act is against the spirit of sport : BCCI

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia released a statement, ‘The Indian team did not wish to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi. But that does not mean Naqvi should take it back to his hotel. His actions go against the spirit of the game. He must return the trophy to India at the earliest. That is all we are demanding for now’.
‘If pride is to be measured by war, then history has already recorded your shameful defeats at the hands of Pakistan. No cricket match can change this truth. Mixing war with sports only shows frustration and is an insult to the game’, Mohsin Naqvi attempted to reply on Prime Minister Modi’s post. Naqvi, however, is facing heavy criticism on social media for this response, as Pakistan has never actually won a war against India, making his claim sound ridiculous. |
Like Naqvi, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also tried to respond to Prime Minister Modi. He posted saying, ‘Modi is destroying the culture and spirit of cricket in the subcontinent. He has ended all possibilities for peace and solutions to problems’. (In reality, it is Pakistan—not India—that destroyed peace in the subcontinent. The only real solution is for Pakistan to stop nurturing terrorism. Operation Sindoor is India’s counter-terrorism action, and it will continue. Asif should keep that in mind ! – Editor) |
Pakistan’s captain throws away the cheque

Naqvi presented Pakistan’s captain Salman Agha with a medal along with a large replica of the runner-up prize cheque. When commentator Simon Doull invited him to say a few words, instead of handing the cheque to anyone, Agha threw it off the stage.
Congress did not congratulate Team India !
After India’s victory, renowned figures congratulated the Indian team. However, Congress neither congratulated the team on social media nor in person. The BJP criticised Congress for this. Congress had earlier opposed playing cricket with Pakistan. (But when Congress was in power, despite public sentiment against playing cricket with Pakistan, they continued to play with them. Now Congress is opposing it only for political reasons, which the public is well aware of ! – Editor)
Editorial PerspectiveThe courage shown by the Indian players—like never before—is commendable ! Going further, what Indians truly expect is that our players should refuse to play with Pakistan anywhere in the world. |
Pakistan’s captain Salman Agha to donate earnings to relatives of terrorist Masood Azhar
After Indian cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav announced that the Asia Cup prize money would be donated to the Indian Army and to the families of those killed in Pahalgam, Pakistan’s captain Salman Agha declared that his earnings from the tournament would be given to the relatives of terrorist Masood Azhar, the chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed, who were killed during India’s Operation Sindoor.
Editorial PerspectiveWhile it is well known that the Pakistani Government and its army creates terrorists, now the captain of the Pakistani cricket team nourishes them too. How much longer will India continue to play cricket with such a team ? |
