‘We have destroyed Hamas, Hezbollah and all our enemies’ : Netanyahu at the UN

Washington DC (USA) – Over the past year the situation has changed. Israel has destroyed all its enemies. We have eliminated the Houthis in Yemen, Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Assad in Syria, and—most importantly—Iran’s nuclear project, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the United Nations General Assembly.

As Netanyahu began his speech, ambassadors from several countries staged a boycott and walked out of the hall. Netanyahu, however, continued his address.

Iran’s nuclear programme exists to intimidate the US : Netanyahu

Netanyahu said Iran’s nuclear programme is not only aimed at destroying Israel but also at intimidating the United States and pressuring countries around the world. ‘When I previously stood before the United Nations, Iran was rapidly expanding its nuclear and missile programmes. Its proxies—Hamas and Hezbollah—were continually targeting Israel. Now Israel has removed those threats’, he said.

Netanyahu avoided European airspace to evade arrest

The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu, accusing him of fomenting war and using starvation as a weapon of war. Because of this, Netanyahu avoided flying through the airspace of European countries that would comply with the Court’s order—such as France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and the United Kingdom and took a longer route to reach the US, adding some 600 km to his journey.

The Israeli government has not given any official reason for selecting that route, but media reports noted that this was the likely reason for the detour.

Editorial Perspective

Netanyahu and the State of Israel, who adopt a resolute, enemy-eliminating mindset, have set a contemporary example of how to deal with jihadi terrorism. India should too adopt this approach !
