Perform ‘Collective Tarpan’ for the 80 crore Hindu ancestors who sacrificed their lives to protect Dharma

Appeal to Hindus worldwide by Meenakshi Sharan, President of ‘Ayodhya Foundation’, on the occasion of Sarvapitri Amavasya

New Delhi – An appeal has been made to perform a collective tarpan (ritual offering to departed souls) for the 80 crore Hindu ancestors who laid down their lives for the protection of Dharma. Meenakshi Sharan, president of the devout Hindu organisation Ayodhya Foundation, has called on Hindus everywhere to carry out this collective tarpan on Sarvapitri Amavasya, which falls this year on 21st September. This is the 9th year that the foundation is carrying out this initiative of performing collective tarpan for ancestors.

Meenakshi Sharan’s appeal to Hindus –

1. Since the 7th century—when Islamic invaders began attacking Hindus—crores of Hindus have struggled to preserve their Hindu identity. Many sacrificed everything, yet did not choose the path of religious conversion.

2. The genocide of Hindus is 2,000 times greater than the Jewish Holocaust. The Jews did not let the memory of their persecution fade away, but the world—and even today’s Hindus—remain unaware of Hinduism’s glorious history. Because of this ignorance, Hindus lack pride in being Hindu.

3. Despite centuries of invasions and atrocities, Hindu culture is still alive in our homes, temples, and festivals. If there is any shortcoming, it is in our proud self-awareness.

4. In the struggle to protect Dharma, crores of Hindus did not get the chance of cremation or the mandatory shraddha-tarpan rituals as prescribed in the scriptures. Those who died fighting—yet refused conversion and preserved Hindu identities—were never honoured ritually. For the past nine years, we have pledged on every 15th August (India’s Independence Day) to undertake collective tarpan for them, and the same year on Sarvapitri Amavasya we actually perform it.

5. Reviving Hindu consciousness is the responsibility of all of us. Therefore, all Hindus should conduct collective tarpan rituals at their respective places.

Every year, lakhs of Hindus participate in this initiative through various organisations, including – Hindu Jagran Manch (branches in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh), Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Sanatan Prabhat, Hindu Yuva Morcha (Chhattisgarh), Hindu Rakshak (Madhya Pradesh), Bharat Rakshak Manch (Ujjain), Shashwat Hindu Foundation (Delhi and Mumbai), Sara Bharat Kashmir, Bharat Rakshan Manch, Kashmiri Brahmin Foundation, Arundhati Foundation (Pune), Dev Deveshwar Sansthan (Pune), Samvedna Sansthan (Himachal Pradesh), Siddha Vidya Associates (Mumbai), Amita Sachdeva and Associates (Delhi), Ayodhya Foundation branches in Nairobi (Kenya), as well as Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Amroha, and Mumbai. Collective tarpan rituals are performed annually in Nashik, Pune, Delhi, Odisha, and internationally in Kenya, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, and other cities.

When will this year’s tarpan be performed ?

On 21st September at 10 a.m, the main tarpan ritual will take place at Chandi Ghat in Haridwar. It is essential to follow the scripturally approved muhurat (auspicious time). Therefore, the collective tarpan will be performed during the ‘Kutup’ Muhurat from 11:50 a.m to 12:38 p.m on that day. Meenakshi Sharan has appealed to Hindus everywhere to organise this sacred ritual in their localities, offer their contributions in this yajna, and repay the debt of their ancestors.
