New Delhi – Delhi Police have busted a major terror module, arresting five terrorists from different states so far. On 10 September, Ashar Danish was arrested from the Islamnagar area of Ranchi, Jharkhand’s capital, while Aftab was arrested from Delhi. Now, Mumbai-based terrorist Sufiyan has also been caught in Delhi, with bomb-making material seized from him. Investigations revealed that all of them were part of Islamic State-linked sleeper cells and were plotting attacks in the National Capital Region during the festive season. The operation is being seen as a major success in foiling a large terror conspiracy in the country.
Key details of the arrested terrorists
1. Ashar, a resident of Bokaro, was caught from Tabarak Lodge with weapons and chemicals. He is considered the mastermind of the group.
2. Aftab, a resident of Mumbai, was arrested in Delhi.
3. Police are probing links of the group with foreign terror outfits, especially Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI.
Who carried out the operation ?
The joint action was conducted by Delhi Police Special Cell, Jharkhand Anti-Terrorism Squad and Ranchi Police.
Maps of Delhi recovered during raids
Raids were carried out at more than 12 locations including Delhi, Mumbai and Ranchi. From these searches, authorities recovered hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulphur powder, a pistol, digital devices and detailed maps of Delhi.
