Brussels – Matthew Whitaker, the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, has accused India of indirectly funding Russia’s war against Ukraine. Speaking to Fox News, Whitaker claimed, “By purchasing Russian oil, countries like China, Brazil, and India are enabling Moscow’s military campaign in Ukraine. To increase economic pressure on Russia, additional sanctions and tariffs must be imposed on these nations.”

For some time now, U.S. President Donald Trump and his allies have repeatedly targeted India over Russian oil imports. Trump even imposed a 50% import duty on India for purchasing Russian crude.

However, Indian officials have strongly rejected these accusations, stressing that New Delhi is being unfairly singled out. India has emphasized that the European Union remains a major buyer of Russian natural gas, while China is by far the largest importer of Russian crude oil.
