Varanasi (UP) – Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji will be leading the ‘Gomata Sankalp Yatra’ in Bihar. This yatra (pilgrimage/march) will begin from Varanasi on 12th September 2025 and pass through nearly all major districts of Bihar including Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Bhojpur, Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Champaran, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Khagaria, Munger, Nalanda, and others. Through this yatra, the message will be conveyed that ‘the right to vote should not be used merely for personal convenience, but for the protection of Dharma and the Nation’.

Vedic union of the Dharma and politics

Speaking about the yatra, Shankaracharya said that politics today has become merely a tool for acquiring power, and it no longer reflects the soul of the nation or the spiritual consciousness of society. This yatra reminds us that without the guidance of Dharma in politics, the country can never become strong. In Indian culture, the cow (Gomata) is revered as the ‘Mother of the Nation’. Without the resolve to protect her, politics will remain an empty framework.

Gomata as the ‘Mother of the Nation’

In Indian life, Gomata is not just an animal, but a symbol of nourishment for the entire creation. In the Vedas, the cow is referred to as ‘Aghanya’ – meaning one who must never be killed. At a time when the storm of modernity is attempting to uproot culture, this yatra proclaims : ‘The cow is the Mother of the Nation’. This is not merely a campaign for cow protection, but a preparatory step for the re-establishment of Dharmarajya (a righteous state). The Gomata Sankalp Yatra is not just a religious programme, but an appeal for national renaissance. This yatra reminds us that the soul of India resides in Dharma, and Dharma rests upon Gomata. If the country is to become strong, self-reliant, and culturally revitalised, Gomata must be accorded the status of Mother of the Nation.
