Over 100 countries become buyers of India’s defense weapons

United States and France also among India’s customers

New Delhi – India’s dominance in the global defense exports sector is rapidly growing. More than 100 countries across the world are now importing defense weapons and equipment from India. The list includes major powers such as the United States, Russia and France. India has also emerged as a supplier of spare parts for fighter aircraft as well as supersonic cruise missiles. Several Indian-made weapons and defense systems have gained wide popularity in the armed forces of many nations.

1. Among the leading buyers of Indian defense weapons are the United States, France and Armenia.

2. France is importing various types of software and electronic equipment from India, which are used in advanced fighter jets and other defense systems.

3. Driven by surging global demand, India’s defense exports have risen fifteen-fold in just nine years, reaching ₹23,622 crore in the financial year 2024–25. The Government aims to scale this up to ₹50,000 crore by the year 2029.

4. Over the last decade, the allocation for defense in India’s national budget has consistently increased. In 2013–14, the provision for defense was ₹2,53,346 crore. By 2024–25, this figure has more than doubled to ₹6,53,346 crore.
