Solapur (Kurduwadi) – A shocking incident has come to light that the Shri Ganesh idols collected by the Kurduwadi Municipal Council from the citizens for the eco-friendly immersion of Shri Ganesh idols have been lying in the closed area of the Municipal Council for the last 3 years without being immersed. This incident has sparked a wave of anger among the Ganesh devotees and the Ganesh devotees have demanded that all these idols be immersed in a ritual way on September 8 and a case be registered against the responsible persons.

The Municipal Council had appealed to the Ganesh Mandals and citizens here to immerse the Ganesh idols in an artificial water tank from the year 2023. The citizens responded to this appeal and handed over the idols to the Municipal Council; however, instead of immersing the idols, they were kept in the courtyards of various ‘shopping centers’. Over time, many idols were damaged and broken. As soon as this incident came to light, Ganesh devotees expressed their anger by chanting slogans like ‘Shame on Kurduwadi Municipal Council’.

Refusal to give keys to Ganesh devotees !

Ganesh idols have been kept in the cabins near the Late Jabbar Sheth Mulani Shopping Center on Madha Road and the Municipal Council Inspector’s office without immersion. When Ganesh devotees asked Health Inspector Alat about these idols, he refused to give them the keys to the business premises. This angered the Ganesh devotees. Social activist Hari Bharate warned that if action is not taken against the responsible officials, a strong agitation will be launched or the city will be forced to close.

The police carried out the immersion

As soon as the police received information about the incident, they rushed to the spot. They took immediate action and took the idols in an estimated 17 to 20 four-wheeled vehicles to the Sina River in Ridhore and immersed them in a proper manner. This calmed down the angry citizens somewhat; however, the basic question remains.

Action will be taken against the culprits

After this incident, Sub-Divisional Officer Mrs. Jayashree Awhad visited the spot and gave a notice of inquiry to the Chief Officer. ‘If anyone is found guilty in this case, we will also take legal action,’ said Police Inspector Atul Mohite.
