  • Case of forced religious conversion of a minor Hindu girl and marrying her off to a Muslim boy

  • All accused arrested

Sentence of removing the defendants from the case!

Varanasi – An incident of forced religious conversion came to light in the Adampur police station area. In this case, a cleric (Islamic scholar) allegedly kidnapped a 12-year-old minor Hindu girl and got her married to a Muslim boy. Police arrested all the accused and punished them by making them do ‘Uthak-Baithak’ (sit-up&squats) at the police station.

Earlier, police had arrested Nihal, the man accused of kidnapping the girl, along with his mother. Now, police have also arrested his father Sharif alias Raju, uncle Lalu, and the cleric who solemnized the marriage, Mohammad Haseen – a total of five people.

Victim’s father threatened with death by a mob of 200 extremists

The father of the victim told the police that his daughter had been missing for three months. When he learned that she was with Nihal, he went to Nihal’s house to bring her back. However, Nihal, his father Sharif, uncle Lalu, and other family members threatened him. They told him that his daughter had already converted and that he no longer had any rights over her. When the father opposed this, a mob of around 200 extremists surrounded him and threatened to kill him.

Editorial Perspective

Simply making them do sit-ups will not bring any change in such people ? For such crimes, the government should punish them with life imprisonment !
