Inspection by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA)

Mumbai – Poor quality Paracetamol has been supplied in public hospitals in the State. The name of the company is Karnataka Pharmaceuticals. These tablets do not conform with the guidelines of Maharashtra Medical Authority, reported Maharashtra Times.
Sometimes there is a shortage of medicines in the public hospitals. 2 years ago, such situation had come up with Paracetamol tablets.
1. At that time, in 2023 Maharashtra Medical Drugs Authority had procured the medicine without issuing a tender, so that the patients do not suffer.
2. In March the Food and Drug Administration had taken the samples of the tablets for inspection. The standards were regarding colour and components. They found fault in batches R 23002 and R 23007 of the medicines.
3. It comes to light that even after 4 months of this exercise, the order to stop the use of these medicines has not been issued.
4. Mahesh Awhad, an official of the Maharashtra Medical Authority informed that the batches of 21 various medicines are not conforming with the quality standards, they are poor quality medicines.
5. Maharashtra Medical Drugs Authority does not have its own laboratory. Now another fault in the system is revealed that there is difficulty in knowing the health hazards of those patients on whom these medicines were administered in the public hospitals.
